We are a small independent publisher in Rio de Janeiro. We started as a reading group: a few people trading long emails about Christian spirituality, Greek philosophy, and the history of religions. The emails turned into meetings, the meetings produced notes, and the notes eventually produced books.

Four questions run through everything we publish. What survives us. How a life is lived well. Where our traditions came from. What actually consoles.

We write for readers who are not specialists and would rather not be talked down to — which usually means keeping the difficulty and losing the jargon.

These English editions are recent. They are translated from the Brazilian originals by Victor Scaramuzzi, and each one is the whole book, not a condensed version. Our other titles are available in Portuguese only.
